How to test oil level sensor Audi A4 2001
My sensor oil can light has been on for a long time. I keep the level up, although it has gotten low before. But it reads all the time. Does this set then need to be reset or will it go off once the level is up?
Is there a way to test it. haven't checked the wiring yet as it is covered by the plastic large covers on the bottom of the car. But plan to. Looked for fuse but I don't think there is one for this model. I checked all fuses and they looked ok. Going to change the oil and would like to replace it if I know it is bad. Is there a way to test the sensor with a volt meter or some such. Is there a way to bypass to test the wiring and such? don't want to buy a new one if i don't need to, but don't mind too much if that is the only way to find out if this one is bad.

Did you check the connector pins in the plug for possible contamination? Also pull on the wires to make sure they haven't broken in the plug. Another possible reason is the bonnet switch. The dash looks for a signal that the bonnet has been opened, to acknowledge that oil has been checked, then put the light out. If the switch is faulty then it can't do this.
