Help/Input/Advice on CLutch for 1999 A4 1.8T
Car has 225k km on it and as far as i know original clutch. Just had the timing belt and tensioner etc all completed and had a chip done as well (#16 psi?). Car runs great but seems to get some hesitation under load in 3rd gear at high rpms not sure if its knocking.
ANyhow I want to upgrade the clutch and want to know anythign and everything about my options. WHat have you upgraded to? ANy popular combinations? best prices for setups etc? SHould I upgrade the flywheel and clutch with oem or go aftermarket for each or both?
I heard it uses a dual mass flywheel. If this is true are there any drawbacks to going with a singlemass? My buddy with a vette says his dual mass conversion to single mass makes the tranny rattle like a **** but he saved over 40 lbs.
ANy info /input is appreciated

i recently replaced the clutch in my 01 a4 1.8t, when i did it, i put in a single mass flywheel, you have to be sure to get a clutch with the spring hub on it, as the flywheel is now solid. My engine/transmission click a bit now when i am idling while not in gear. when i put the clutch in the rattle goes away. So i believe that has something to do with the way the engine is balanced. I'm not sure what kind of damage that may be causing, i hope it isn't serious. i have chipped the car now and i'm thinking i should have put a stage 1 clutch in instead of stock. I've heard that southbend makes excellent clutches and flywheel kits. i went with the single mass because i found that it would be almost as expensive to have the dual mass resurfaced. Many places either don't know how to or don't want to go through the trouble. a new dual mass could be $500, while the ligthweight one was about $250.
