Default Gauges go to zero, all the gauge lights turn on

I have a 2001 Audi TT Coupe 180 hp AWP engine. It has a brand new battery and the alternator puts out over 14 volts. There are times when I am driving and the gauge needles go to zero, all the gauge lights light up like a Christmas tree and when I push the clutch in, turn off the engine, it just clicks when I turn the key to start it. So as I'm still rolling, I turn the key on and it starts up. It will run like garbage for 5 minutes and then all of a sudden everything goes back to normal and it runs fine. The car starts right up with the battery. Any advice? Thanks, Kevin
