CV Joint - Good or Bad?
Just removed the left front axle of my '95 cabriolet to replace the inner CV joint boot. You have to take the outer joint off also as part of the process soI am replacing that boot too. While cleaning the outer joint,I notice scarring on theinner cage between the ***** bearings. Also notice some discoloration of the *****, andthe races have some distinct bluish coloration as though they were overheated. Further, there was not enough grease in this joint. It operated without any noise while on the car. Itdoes not move as smoothly as the right side outer joint that Idid a boot job on last week. Question: Is thisjusta typical example of a crappyrebuiltjoint that somebody previously replaced or is this a bad joint that needs replacing now. I have my suspicions as one of the triple square bolts that connect the axle to the drive flange was rounded out. Replace it with new, buy a rebuilt , or use it as is? Markings on the joint are EMPI AU-111-3-445. Thanks.

RE: CV Joint - Good or Bad?
without looking it could be both ways ( blue ball bearings means its working ) though with a lack of lithium grease so top it up it could be alright but then again your replacing the inner cv joint and that normally means the outer has gone bad first, change both to be comfortable
