Any ideas on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 1996 A6 2.8 Quattro wagon. After it goes through the car wash the car stalls out and continues to do so when re-started andput into drive. It then will have to be re-started several times before it does not repeat the stall. Sometimes this happens immediately, sometimes 10-15 minutes after leaving the car wash. The car will start up right away, and will go into and operate in reverse without stalling, but when put into drive it stalls. Typically, after several attempts and some engine-revving in park, it will finally go into drive and operate as though nothing happened.

Any help would be great.

I do not use any special wash feature - just the most basic wash.

It has happened only once in the rain - during a torrential downpour.

I have a 01 A4 2.8. I am a Auto Detailer by profession so I clean it mostly by hand except I use a low power pressure washer instead of a garden hose. I allways spray the undercarrage of a vehical to remove any dirt or salt. The first time I cleaned my car i washed everything including under the engine, i did not pop the hood and clean the engine itself i just stuck the pressure washer under the car and sprayed everything. After that i took atleast two hours to dry/wax, and clean the interior. The car started fine afterwords and performed normally until about 30MPH. Then the CEL started flashing and the car sputterd, it didnt stall to the pointI had to restart it, it just sputterd. About 30 seconds it stopped and operated normaly.
A week or so later I was in a terential down poor and it did the same thing, after the rain died down it returned to normal.

I searched this forum and found sombody with a similar problem. I tried the solution listed andI havnt had the problem since. The only thing isI havent sprayed under the engine and it hasent rained too hard soImnot sure if it worked or not but its worth a shot.
