Default 2000 TT Quattro questions

I just purchased a 2000 TT Quattro. It has 148k mi. I have been researching maintenance to get everything up to par and it seems there are so many horror stories out there. Many of them are just minor issues but one in particular (timing belt) has me afraid to drive it. There is no history on the car so is there a way to know if the timing belt is bad or worn. I removed the cover to the belt and it looks brand new but seems really loose. Is this normal? Any advice is appreciated. Charlie

If its loose, the tensioner is weak. Do the service - it's gonna cost you the engine if it lets go and isn't worth risking.

Thanks, where's the best place to purchase the kit? I have it parked in the garage now until I can get it done. I figured I was pressing my luck driving it. Appreciate the advice.

In the last year or so a lot of us, myself included, have been going through Volvo Parts, BMW Parts, European Car Parts | FCPGroton.com as the kit is quality and the price is significantly lower than other places.
