Hey people,
I recently bought a used 98 Audi A4 Quattro and there's a problem that I can't understand. When I start my car it's fine and runs great, there's absolutely nothing wrong and thats why I bought the car. But, if I turn the car off and start it up again in just a minute or two it'll sound fine, but the blinkers, headlights, and airconditioner would not work, AND when I switch to neutral I hear this loud, roaring/grinding/really ugly noise that makes me jump every time. But if I'm in drive or reverse it doesn't occur. It also occurs in park if it occurs in neutral too (after I switch from drive to park), but I have no idea what could be wrong with the car. I've also noticed that if the car is off for over 5 minutes then starting it up is ussually no problem (the only exception to that was today at half day the car did the same thing but was driven up to a parking lot where it sat for 5 minutes or so while I glanced through the manual). I'm at about 88k miles (bought it used) and am wondering if it's something with the timing belts since I know it should be replaced at 90k miles, but that wouldn't explain my electrical problems.
