take your pick. personally i think the 6500Ks are by far the best looking due to the perfect, bright white... but that's just my preference.
these are the ones i'm talking about:

i believe a few others on here have used these as well and are also satisfied with the results.

RE: HID's for a B5
I bought a kit on eBay from seller pipi_stuff168 (go to eBay Community and look up the screenname to find him). He has a very high rating (99.8% positive on 891 feedbacks), and I read through the feedback to see if everyone was happy with their kits, which they were. I ordered a 6000k kit for my OEM H7 headlights. I paid on Wednesday morning last week, and they arrived this past Saturday. The kit is plug and play, very easy to install (easier than my last set was on a different car anyway). I have thought since I got my car that the low beams suck (99 A4) but the high beams were great. This kit has now cured that problem, as I figured it would. The kit only cost $180 shipped and is warrantied as well. Here's a few pics of the beam intensity from the kit. Appearance-wise, the 6000k color temperature looks very similar to OEM Audi HIDs, very nice appearance. And the functionality is great as well.
Hope the pics help. I'm not affiliated with the seller, BTW - just wanted to pass on a good experience from a legitimate seller in case it'll help anyone. You can see from the pics how intense the light is, and it makes a real difference when driving.

PS...
...sorry about the crappy pic quality - phone cam. I'm going to take some better pics with my digicam before long (later this week after I clean the car up in our last stretch of nice weather for the next 6 months) and I'll post more pics of the car, the lights, and the install of the system. They're really a nice looking kit.

RE: PS...
OK so maybe a dumb question. What is the difference between single beam Xenons and single beam HIDs?
Also UpstateNYa4, you don't have projectors do you? Is your spread still nice with clean cut off lines? Or will I get pulled over in Jersey because of them?
Thanks for your input

RE: PS...
There is no difference, since xenon and HID are interchangeable terms. For the A4, you want a single-beam kit. And my car is an early 99, so it didn't come with projectors, but I got depo projectors two weeks ago, so I have them now. Either way though, you shouldn't get pulled over - I never had a problem. The reflector lights put the beams out OK, but the projectors are far better.

RE: PS...
Thanks alot. Are the lights in the pics projector is reflectors?
Jersey cops can just be extremely ****, especially the local cops. Worse than everywhere I have been and i drive back and forth to florida from S.Jerz and Boston from S. Jerz.

RE: PS...
The lights in my sig pic are OEM reflectors. The projectors are much nicer looking and the beam pattern is a huge boost.
As for the local cops, I still think you'll be fine. HIDs are more common than ever now, and the police probably see and deal with more cars than anyone else, so they certainly know that. They also know that higher-end cars such as Audi are the most likely to have them. Seeing one more Audi with HIDs shouldn't even register on them. Hopefully anyhow - mount your ballasts somewhere they're not really visible and if someone ever gave you trouble about them, just tell them, "It's an Audi - they come with these lights." They'll likely drop it.
