My bluetooth mod for 2001 A4 B5 with symphony HU
I wanted hands-free calls, AUX, and bluetooth streaming, but did not want to get rid of my original HU. I took ideas from a few other theads and have a perfectly funtional solution. I got a motorola T605 and wired it in. I replaced the old factory audi mic with the new one, but left it in the headliner location. I then wired the T605 into the CD player input, and spliced power off of the back of the HU. All of my connections were made at the back of the HU.
My next delima was how to get the AUX/A2DP bluetooth streaming to work. I did not have a CD changer, but I had to get one (ebay for $45.00) to trick to HU to accept a signal from the AUX/A2DP. My last battle was how to get the AUX/A2DP sound without the CD changer music (the CD changer has to actually be playing a CD for the HU to accept a signal). My plan was to put in a switch to alternate between the CD changer and the AUX/A2DP (I bought the CD changer, I may as well leave it functional for book on CD, etc).
I had a though come to me while I was sleeping of all places. I want it to be as minimally invasive/intrusive as possible. So, my solution was burning a blank CD!!! I burned a 70 minute track on a CD-R with the mic input turned off. I used a trial of Goldwave to made the track, then burned it with media player.
The finished result is s fully funtional CD changer, AUX, and A2DP bluetooth streaming, and hands-free calling. The only visible alteration is the AUX port on the dash (I just drilled a hole in the empty button spot next the the fox lights and super glued the AUX and button in place), and the T605 controller which I placed on the driver side of the center console close to the seat. It is easy to manipulate without visulizing, and does not detract from the car.
