Default MMI Hotspot switch from TMobile to AT&T?

All

I have '12 Q7 with the TMobile wireless connection. With 3weeks left of my "free" six month subscription, and not living in a TMobile well covered town, plus the fact that $30/month is NOT a good value, I am looking for alternatives.

I understand the radio is 3G only and not upgradable. Is there anyway to unlock the radio to both accept an AT&T 3G SIM, and provide hotspot access at 3G?

Other forums appear to have gotten it to take a 3G AT&T SIM, but are stuck with 2G data. They also haven't updated the posts since September, 2012. I'm hoping for some updated information and experience.

TIA,

Spamcop (Joe)

Default Switch from T-Mobile to AT&T

Agreed that T-Mobile is unacceptable. Can I get an AT&T SIM and substitute it for the T-Mobile SIM

Other posts on the forum suggests it is possible, but only 2G seems to work. A new "monkey wrench" is that to function properly with AT&T, the radio would need to be "unlocked," which is now illegal without carrier/manufacturer permission. My dealer has declined to take a position on that (I understand, they probably have little idea what I am talking about regarding the unlocking of the radio).
