Adding Navigation System to 2007 A6

Adding Navigation System to 2007 A6
I bought an A6 sedan from the dealer recently and the unit came with the MMI screen and the satellite antenna. The dealer told me that the navigation could be easily installed but the part would be around $2000 with installation.
I am not wanting to pay dealer prices and I am open to using aftermarket equipment if it is good quality.
My question are:
1. Can I add the navigation system in the trunk of the car?
2. Should I go with an Audi Nav system or aftermarket? What model?
3. If I were to add it, is this something that a moderately mechanical person could do, or should I go to a mechanic?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
