A4 component speakers?
My buddy has an 01 A4, and already has an alpine deck with an old eclipse alum 12 with an mtx mono block hooked up. He's been asking me for a while about some budget comps to throw in the fronts. He says that the front are 5.25s, but hes not sure. So whats the max depth of the doors and stock front speaker size? Also i suggested Arc Kar comps, pg xenon comps and cadence comps all for budget components or even the old cdt CL A's/edi 6000s (same more or less), but what would yall suggest for under $150?
Also i wrecked my truck and am wanting to join the Audi family when my pocket permits.
Does anybody have true custom install or nice SQ gear in there Audi's? as car audio is my thing..

Have you tried off axis door positions too? Also are your kick panels fully sealed or left slightly open? I have heard not sealing off the kick panels will act like a larger enclosure for the mids...

You're correct - and mine ARE vented. You'll notice when you move the rats nest of wires in the kickpanels, Audi was kind enough to provide vents to the outside, and thus allow the speakers a ton of breathing room...and sound much better than a sealed small kickpanel.
Off axis door locations are pretty much EVERY car, and while convienient, don't do any favors for sound quality. The problem is path length differences are too great. (The distance from the left speaker is much closer than the distance from the right speaker - resulting in "bias"). Get the speakers as far away from you as possible!
The Arc Audio KAR 265s or Oz Audio Vector series components are some of the best value you can get...and fit his budget.

I would agree that kick panels are worthless, I have never heard any kickpanels that sound good. Your feet covers up the tweeter!
Your best bet would to put the drivers in the doors and use time correction to compensate for the location differences if you really want it to sound good.
And yes I do have a custom system that I designed myself that is definately considered SQ.
Alpine D-900 (optical out) with custom dash trim.
Alpine PXA-H700 (external D/A + DTS 5.1 processor)
Jl 300/4
Jl 1000/1
Alpine MRV-F409
4 Alpine F-17M (in the doors)
1 Alpine F-13M (center channel where ashtray used to be)
1 JL 13W0
I previously had 2 10W7's but they were just loud, not accurate. This sub rocks, and it is cheap as hell.
