Default 2000 A4 amp pre-wired.Questions

Ok, so I purchased a 2000 Audi A4 about 5 months ago. Recently I decided to remove the stock speakers and replace with some aftermarkets. That wasn't so bad, replaced the front 4s with a pair of Bostons and the backs with a pair of Polks. Where it gets interesting is when changing out my back speakers I noticed this

It looks as though a RCA wire has been spliced into the factory speaker wire. Upon further investigation, thinking that this possible could have been stock like this I followed the wire and found that it was for sure not stock, had been stuffed into the side seat panel like so .

So Im sure it wasn't stock like that. I started looking around more and found out this car has indeed been pre wired by it's last owner for a after market sound system. So I have 2 questions. Why would someone splice a RCA wire into the stock rears, if that is what the wire is. And what the hell is this grey wire?

WHat I was planning on doing was getting a 250w 2 channel to run the new rear 6.5s that I got. So if this is all prewired it's going to save me a ton of time. My primary concern is if the RCA cables are what I think they are, why are they spliced into the rear speaker, and if that was wired to also run the fronts somehow, could I technically splice into the current RCA and run THAT to my amp?

P.S. There is also a ground wire thats already attached to the frame, pic just doesn't show it.

It looks like they were using the rca's to get the "signal" input to the amp. as far as the grey wire, what ends does it have? Also double check the main power wire. it should go to either the battery or a major power source with a fuse in-line. Last thing you want is to have the power wire short and burn the car to the ground.
