Older Audis are okay!

Older Audis are okay!
I think that this is great! Not everyone lease's or, buys a new Audi every few years. Like myself, I purchased my 1988 90 many years ago and it keeps on ticking. I must say that I baby my Audi, and I only drive her on rainless days. Enough of that. Within the last few years I have started doing my own repair work. I have always done this with my other vehicles but, I would send the 90 out. I have started buying parts from a company in New York, Shokan Parts. Has anyone dealt with these company in the past? Or, can anyone recommend other companies to purchase parts and ect. from.

RE: Older AudiÂ’s are okay!
I have been using several places, audiquattroparts.com, autopartsgo.com, maximumautoparts.com, Paul Miller Audi as well as others. My coworker uses Shokan Parts and has his car serviced there occasionally since he hasn't complained I guess that they are OK, but expect to pay premium as I have found out when I priced a used tranny for a 4000S.[:@]

I found that the "Partsbin.com is the fair priced place to buy. fast delivery and orders over $50.00 free freight.

Offramp,
So what did you pay for a used tranny?
I bought a used transaxle for an 85 for 250, go pick it up, about 30 miles. Needed the differential, only, but had to buy both.
Dirty, all screwed up, had to rebuild myself, but complete overhaul kit, more parts than go in 1 tranny, was 128 bucks.
They are very simple for a rebuild, and all new.
Don't be scared to pull one apart and follow the pictorial when doing so. Watch as parts come out, put them back in the same order. Dead simple.
Cheers,
George

Shokan wanted $650 for a used one. What did I pay? In the end too much but one local salvage yard gave me a gearbox for $150 it worked great but eventually leaked like a fountain. I put in a new torque converter seal but that only lasted a few days. Later I found a service bulletin, turns out Audi has a cheesy bushings on the converter, they quickly wear out and you get a leak.

Worse than that, for me with this car. After I changed it out, my kid gave me hell for not scrapping the old one, so I did.
Couple days later read in Consumer Reports there was a recall on those years, bad differential lube, called Audi, they said they would replace it under warranty.
Went to the scrapyard to find the old parts, gone to the smelter.
Can't win for losing, sometimes.
Cheers,
George
