I'm looking at an 88 5000cs quattro turbo wagon. It has 241k on it. How far do these go and what sort of problems do they start having at that age? What should I be looking out for? I'd appreciate any feedback. I've mostly been into volvos and 241 on a volvo is barely middle aged if it's been taken care of. I wonder if it's similar for Audis.

i've got a 87 5kt cs, and it has 140k on the odometer, things you gotta watch out for are if the bomb(brake accumulator) is bad, any wiring problems, hydraulic leaks, etc. I just started getting really involved on fixing mine up, and once i fix one thing, something else goes wrong. My starter just kicked the bucket yesterday after finishing tuning it up... be prepared

 

I have 350K on a 1989 200QT so your's is just a baby.

I seem to be doing brakes all the time. Get60-70K on front brakes and 100K on rears,
did a clutch at 210K - the throwout bearing was bad but replaced theclutch anyway
rear links at 250K, radiator at 270K and an alternator at 300K.
window switches as needed --

 

I had an 86 5000 CS with around 200K on it, and what I found is that the relays start going bad so I replaced a few of those. The motor and transmission in these car are excellent and I had no mechanical trouble with it. I mainly had electrical issues and had to replace a lot of front suspention and steering components. Mechanicly they are a 300k++ vehicle.

 

history is the question ( do you have any? ) if not thats tough but as a guide ill bet lots have been done to the car in those miles infact probably rebuilt and as good as new

 

Had a Audi 90 5 cyl with 300k, ran great, I ended up needing an auto trans. Thats good by my book.
