How low did you go?

How low did you go?
Lets here some stories about running reeeeeaaaaaaal low on fuel or as some call it running on "gas fumes!"
I didn't run out yet but the lowest I went was about one gallon in the tank. Which doesn’t sound like much but on a hilly and twisty road it was a bit unnerving.

Kakarot,,
I didn't know Audi made a heavy duty truck. Great mileage. You should try a 90, 100 or 200 for pleasure trips, 20 plus MPG. Way cheaper to drive, unless you relly gotta haul something.
Cheers,
George

I haven't ran out yet, but with no gas gauge and just relying on my trip milage I'm pretty sure it will happen. My brother had a 89 probe with the electronic cluster and it never worked for him so he didn't have a gas guage or milage at all...he ran out of gas 8 times in one year. After the second time he learned to just carry an empty gas can in his trunk since most gas stations wouldn't let him borrow a gas can.

RE: How low did you go?
I drove down to central CA (about 300 miles from me, one way) one time to meet a friend of mine and shoot his guns, and I used up about 3/4s of a tank getting down there cruising between 100-120 when the CHP weren't around. On the way back, I decided I would stop at the first 76 I saw since I have a gas card for them, but everytime I saw one, I was already past it and didn't feel like turning around and stopping there, so I kept going. This happened about three times, and I was getting down to where it said "50 MILES" on the electronic gauge, so I decided the next time I saw a gas station, I would stop and shovel out some cash. The next time I saw a sign, I was at "10 MILES" on the gauge, so I pulled right in and stopped. Problem was, I realized I didn't have much cash on me. I left my house with about $9, but then before I left to head home, I bought a can of dip for $7. I had two dollars left in my pocket, and the gas was $2.89 for 87 at the no name, middle of no where station. I scoured my car for change and any money I had laying around and found a roll of nickels I had put in there about 2 months ago and forgot to cash. $7 in hand, I paid the cashier and got a couple gallons. Next stop, King City. It was another middle of nowhere city, but was way bigger and had a few gas stations. I pulled up to the 76, slid my card, and was home free.
It wouldn't as much as a big deal if I had told my parents I was driving 300 miles out to meet a friend, but they never knew. I nearly sh*t my pants thinking about what I was going to do if I had run out of gas. At least I had my sleeping bag, so I wouldn't freeze to death, and full can of dip so I could relax a little, but it wasn't a good experience overall. Running out a gas in the city wouldn't be so bad, but out on the highway with no where with atleast 25 miles each way between towns wouldn't be so good.
