I have owned two 5000 models, two A8s (pre-2001) and currently a 90 V8 Quattro.
I also have several Mercedes and BMWs.
All of these cars require service.
If you have a brand new car under warranty then there is nothing to worry about for about 4 years.
The question is what goes wrong in an Audi vs. other German or US, Japanese models after that, and what does it cost to fix?
Since Audi sells the least volume than these other marques it stands to reason that parts and labor tend to be higher.
The fun quotient is still high although I found that my 87 and 90 A8s were too homogenized to keep vs. S class Benz's and 7 series BMWs. The sedans just don't have any soul.
The newer and smaller, more powerful engines vs. weight must be different but I have not tested these.
I worry about buying used Audis out of warranty as my experience is that the smallest repair is quite costly, much more so than their counterparts.
I have experienced this in independent mechanics and the dealership.

AUDI VS CADDY..... its not even the same class

CADDY = older group of people like the American large heavy feel (not a performance car)

AUDI = Everyone who can afford it can enjoy it (Performance, luxury and style)

you guys bitch too much we audi fans love our audis and will defend them its a given

Go to a caddy forum lol

People like this shouldn't own an Audi anyway. Go away and enjoy your ricer. I've owned just about every option you're speaking of. I love the Audi and although it's heavy (A6) and requires upkeep I'm confident it'll last for a very long time. My sis went from a Chevy to a Caddy CTS to an Audi and will never go back.

Wow, dumb thread, even dumber owner.
1) This is a OLD turbocharged car..... What do you expect? It was built to be driven sporty, and it has been.... If I made you run 10 miles a day full pace on a tread mill every day for 15 years, you may have a heart attack too.
2) German electronics are not the best. I give you this. I am pro euro car, and I am not being biased. They do have some issues. Usually, just nagging ones.
3) Once again, this is an old car.
4) Saying an American car is more reliable is like saying herpes is less severe than the clap. What a dumb *** statement.
People like you make everyone look bad. For ***** sake, I am dumber for reading this.
