Its for 1993 Audi 90s with v6 2.8L sound comes from the left side of my egnine where the belts are running, it has banging noise with like a 1 sec pause sounds like this bang..........bang............bang....... etc its not like boom bang its like tapping bang. like giving a light tap on a pan. What can it be can some one plz help [:@]

maybe if it is does it mean i need to grease them up or replace?

is it hard to replace them and do u know about how much they cost?

 

It sounds like a lifter(s) that is noisy, does the sound disappear after driving for some time? Replacing the lifters isn’t all that difficult but it is time consuming. I would guesstimate that they should run about ~$10 each. Replacing all at once is much esier than trying to isolate the noisy one. You will also need new valve cover gasket something that people often overlook.

 

each is 30 dollars, many times you can extend the life by switching to lower grade oil. like from 10W40 u take 5w 40 and full syntethic. I use 0w-40 and no prob, havent heard any lifters in long while, but its summer, during winter I can hear them sometimes.
