Default Engine swap

I really want to replace my 20v with a 20v turbo, does anyone know how i can get my hands on one and whether its possible to put a 20v turbo from an audi 4000 turbo or another audi turbo model into my 1990 90 quattro 20v.

I was also wondering if anyone knows how much hp the 20v turbo has stock.

220 horsepower stock.
Im pretty sure no 4000's came turbo charged. just 5000's did.
the 4000 came with a N/A 5 cylinder 10 valve motor putting out something like 115 horsepower.
the 5000 came with a turbo charged 5 cylinder 10 valve motor putting out 170 or so horsepowe.

I could be wrong.
but thats just what i remember.
the 20v turbo is rare and expensive. but very nice if you can find or afford it.

If you swap engines the engine must be from a same model year car or newer only. You will have to passmuster with a referee in order to register the car afterward. Also, the 20v turbo swap is a $12,000 to $15,000 ordeal. It is far from the simple swap people imagine.

wouldn't it be cheaper to fit a turbo rather than a full engine?

Nope. The compression of the non-turbo engines is way too high, and you still need to cut and fab metal to make room for the turbo and intercooler. Then there is still the wiring and ECU to buy and swap.

Forget a turbo five and instead swap for the 4.2 liter V-8 from and A8. Huh you ask? 2Bennett Audimotive in Davis California does about one turbo conversion a month. They have it down to a science and still the job requires 100 hours of labor. It really is a complex job requiring a great deal of metal cutting and fabrication to make room for the turbo and intercooler. You need an old or reproduction RS2 bumper to feed air to the intercooler. Price one of those sometime :-0 It is just plain ugly to do.
2Bennett last week showed me this demure, innocent looking gray Coupe GT in their shop. I was there to have their adjustable coil over conversion to my car. While in the shop I was asking Andrew Bennett the same question you ask, how to make some more power without spending five figures. This little Coupe GT has a 4.2 liter V-8 under the hood. 2Bennett fabricates a custom engine cradle and bolts this inplace of the stock unit. From there the swap is pretty straight forward. They claim the entire job can be done for $4500, maybe a touch less. They have done a bunch of these for track cars. The Coupe GT will be a street car registered in California, so the owner has to make a Cal EPA referee happy if he wants to keep his car legally registered. This is not an easy thing to do but Andrew Bennett is confident. He installed all of the correct engine electronics and emissions equipment from the doner A8. It fits behind the stock radiator! The fact that really sealed the deal for me is the big V-8 with it's aluminum block is 75 pounds lighter than the iron block five. 300 horsepower and less weight than stock, plus this is a nice torquey understressed engine, perfect for the street.
