ahhh great stuff mate I had this problem with my 1987 20v 5 cylinder and was well embarrassed when the fault was found even Audi had no idea

edit: it was a 1989

actually I only found out this when the MOT was being done and he stuffed a probe in the dip stick pipe and noticed the revs went erratic and he told me why

ditto ... vacum leaks .... oil cap itself can cause one too
one bad injector is enough to make hte car run like poop

hahaha we found out what it was. My sparks had holes, so in turn it caused spark leaks and when replaced, the car ran like new! thanx for all the help guys!
