Default 88 90 Quattro Exhaust ?

Hello, this is my first post. Had an 90 90 a few years back and fell in love with it. Been looking for a quattro and picked this up for $850 USD just a few days ago. Odom is broken, so estimated 250K. Think I am going to have to replace the Valve cover seal and the oil pan seal. Runs and drives good. Shift linkage is a little loose, but has no problem shifting.

My question is, the previous owner cut the muffler off. I want to put a muffler on it, will I need to replace the whole Exhaust? Any suggestions for the muffler? I know I am going to have to replace the manifold cause its dented.

Default Update

I have since pulled off the cut part of the exhaust. Which was rubbing on the diff. Now it is Much louder than before and has an exhaust smell thats fairly promenent. Looking for a replacement.

My hydralic clutch lost pressure. So, when I checked the DOT4 Res. it was dry. Filled it up and bleed the line, clutch is working good.

The car is idleing a little rougher since i pulled the chopped off peice of the exhaust, I think its cause it doesn't have enough back pressure.

The last 90 I had was a not a quattro and had an auto tranny. Perhaps its just me, but are the gears real close together? I have to start in 2nd then to straight to 4th, just in town, partially because its so loud, but mostly because otherwise I would have to shift thru 4th just to get up to 30mph, w/o hitting 5Krpm. Normal?

Default Exhaust

I had a cheap thrush put on and removed the resonator. Still loud but not nearly as obnoxious! At least I can hear my shitty stereo now!
