2 1/2 months later, did you find an alternator, and did you fix your problem?

Couple days ago you posted, and good on you, Il Douche is wrong, anyhow. Alternators are AC devices with diodes to produce DC which your car uses. If you have a 100 Amp alternator, it is not going to "spike" your system with 100 Amps, if you reconnect.

An alternator is self exciting. It will put out all the power you need to keep the car running. Shut it off, and, with a dead battery, you will not start it. Good battery, your car will run to the point that the battery can't produce enough to run the electrics of ignition.

Again, have you replaced the alternator? If not, I could ask my mech if he will come take one off my 87 5000, should be the same. Would ship flat rate for shipping and his charge. I think it is the same, wouldn't really know till I read the numbers off it. I think they are rated in Kw Hrs.

Cheers,

George

I'm in SW PA, if you're close enough, bring your SD and see if he will crawl under it and take it off for free.

I'm SD to 3 girls, up to 42, and 3 Gkids to 20. None of them consider me SD nor do I consider them step kids. They are MY kids. SD is not an epithet. There are more good ones than bad ones. You're driving, so you are old enough to know where YOUR's places.
