Default Performance Upgrades for 2.0t

Hey people new to the world of Audi and F/I in general. I've had many cars but the quick ones have been 06 Nissan Maxima (still own) with every bolt on you can get your hands on. A G35 slightly modified (still own). A heavily modified 96 corvette (482 WHP) That ended up burning down to the ground after a mechanic failed to secure the fuel return line properly. It was such a fun project car. The list of modification was a mile long. It could blow the pants off any supercar in its generation and many new ones today. So now that I need to start over I've set my sights on a more modern project car. A 2009 convertible a4 2.0t. But this thing has NO get up and go... I am not practical in any sense of the word. I need speed and power and lots of it. After my corvette the only thing that gets me excited are motorcycles but I just sold my last one 2009 Yamaha R1 a couple months ago. So I have been left a bit dry lately.

I am done with the anxiety and searching through the dregs of society to find a smog shop that will cheat the tests and pass me illegally for 200 bucks under the table. I want something that I do not have to worry about. Another reason I am going more modern. I don't have the money to do anything 1973 and under either because I am saving up for the GTR, I'd like to own one 3-5 years from now so A quarter of my paycheck goes into GTR savings. A little more than half goes to living and the rest goes into Normal Savings (Which I will be tapping into to make this car fun).

I have not been too successful in finding performance parts for the A4 and even less finding parts that also state CA legal/50 state legal.

Here is what I want done.

1) The APR Stage II tune w/downpipes. This looks like a solid performance gain and for the HP/TQ numbers they are claiming (97-111HP increase) for around 800 bucks that is a heck of a deal! A must have... but I need more.

2) Turbo upgrade. Is there any kind of upgrade I can do to the stock turbo, or even a new turbo that is CA legal? When It comes to speaking F/I it seems like a new language to me. I will learn, but not fast enough to get the answers I need now.

3) I am sure I can find this one on my own but in case anyone is feeling generous. Any exhaust systems CA legal? If not what about cutouts. Anyone do them? I've done cutouts in my other cars. I love the options to have stock quietness when driving work colleagues or family around but at the touch of a button you have a great sounding car. Eliminates smog worries when closed. However, I've only had large displacement motors.. maybe the audi wouldn't sound good with an open exhaust?

4) I'll most likely get lighter rims to reduce rotational inertia/parasitic loss. Depending on how heavy the stock rims are. I had 16 LBS rims on my maxima and picked up more performance than any other mod I did. (Stock rims were 55lbsX4 +1 full size spare. weight reduction of 156LBS of rotational inertia and 275LBS of weight total)

5) What else are people doing these days for performance power wise. I can do my own research on suspension ect..

6) I would like a minimum of 400AWHP. At what level of power are we looking at transmission failure? As long as it is within reason I'd consider beefing up the transmission. I'd like to work within a $10k dollar budget +or- a few K.

Thanks!

There isn't much activity on this forum from what I see. I also just bought a 2014 B8 and looking for info as well. I am on Audizine and it seems more active than here.

yeah, I noticed lol. I have been talking to shops though. It seems there is VERY little we can do with these cars and remain smog compliant. In fact, literally all we can do is Stage 1 APR ECU flash. Air filter, and catback exhaust. That is it. Really disappointing. It seems if we want anything more we will have to switch everything back to stock to pass smog in California.
