Default Oil

Few questions manye someone can help.. First off on a 2009 a4 2.0t what type of oil should I use I can't find my owners manual.. Second my car has 20k on it and after 5k it has been burning a quart of oil every 2k is that unusuall? I am also experiencing problems in the cold weather which consists of the car not going into gear along with a tapping noise and twice the car has shut off at idle . The dealership says it's sometimes normal for the car to burn oil. I have 2 2009 a4's and don't experience problems with the other one at all.

A quart of oil every 2K is not normal and indicates excessive engine wear or a manufacturing problem. The dealer hopes you will go away. It is only normal for Audis apparently.

use a vw 502 approved oil. the list of certifications are on the back of the oil container. i use mobil 1 0w-40. works perfect. in the summer i'd like to use mobil 1 5w-40 but i can't find it anywhere. whatever you do, at the very least, use synthetic oil.

some oil consumption is normal, 1 quart every 2k isnt that bad. Move up to a higher weight, this can help with the consumption. Depending on where you live should dictate the wieght you use. here in batimore we most commonly use 5w40. as far as brands liqui moly, pentosin, red line, motul, total, and elf are my favorites.

Default Where's the dipstick?!

I've had my new 2009 A4 Quattro 2 months. Put 2700 miles on it and the low oil light goes on. Get home, it's night. Look in the manual for where the dipstick is to check oil level. It says...." orange dipstick" and shows a picture of the engine. I can't find it with the flashlight. Next morning in the daylight I still can't find the dipstick. Now oil light is off. Take off the next day for a 200 mile road trip to the mountains and the light goes on again! Crap! Can I drive it? Do I need it towed?? Pull over, call around for a dealer that's open still on a Sat afternoon. Find one 15 miles away where the Service Dept is open. He tells me all I need is to put a quart of oil in it. This model burns oil and needs a quart every 2500 miles. Also there is no dipstick to check--only the MMI read-outs. WTF!!?? So why put those instructions and photos in the manual? Dealer did not tell me I'd need to put oil in it every 2,500 miles. It was JUST in for a transmission flash the day before for rough 1st - 2nd and 2nd -1st. Very frustrating.
