Question K & N Typhoon Kit

Hey guys - just wanted to get your opinions...
K & N has released a cold air intake system for the B8 2.0. I'm not sure how long it's been out, maybe I am behind the time here but that's besides the point. K & N is claiming an 18 hp, and somewhere around 16 lb torque increase...with dyno "results" posted on their website. Now I don't know about you guys, but I have never heard of a simple bolt on cold air intake system producing increases like they are claiming. Opinions? Comments?

sounds unrealistic

Audi intakes are, generally speaking, quite good stock. Anything is possible I suppose.

LOL 18 Hp from a CAI. i call BS. the aftermarket for audi is small for a reason; the engine, intake and exhaust have no weakpoints or bottlenecks unless you use a bigger turbo or nitrous.

Agree completely. I'm not sure what kind of instruments they are using to test/produce these claims. lol.

Well you can always test it yourself, just do some logs of the maf readings with the stock setup and then logs with the intake kit.

BTW are they claiming a 18hp gain or a 18 peak hp gain? Because there is a HUGE difference since the claimed numbrers can be much lower in the power band. Exhaust companies do the same thing. Always have to make sure it says peak hp gains.

I have the k&n intake and I love it. I got it for $215 shipped and I would pay for it again. I don't know about the hp gain but they show the dyno run on YouTube I think but could all be bogus. I have it plus an apr stage1 tune and the car sounds amazing. And I don't know what you guys are talking about the stock system not being flawed because the air route is so indirect and very small once it's out of the car and it's also twice the weight. Basically at any rpm you can hear it sucking air and the DV sounds amazing too. You can tell the car is breathing so much better. No point in having the car breath though a straw when I'm running 19psi. For a little over $200 it makes the car sound better and I get better mpg if I'm not beating in it.

********, where did you get your kit from for that price? I really want to order that asap. I drive a ton for my job so its hard for me to do too many upgrades to the motor but I definitley am buying this.
