Fluctuating/Fluttering RPM's
I own a 2010 Audi A4 with roughly 40,000km's on the vehicle. I've noticed on the highway, two areas where the RPM's flutter.
The first is when I'm traveling at 80KM/HR and then hit the accelerator and keep the RPM's at a steady 2,500 RPM. In other words, I don't hit the accelerator hard enough that it changes gears but rather let the car pick up speed by keeping the RPM's steady at 2,500RPM. When I do this at this speed, you visibly feel and see the RPMs go up and down, up and down fluctuating between say 2,300 - 2,600 RPM's.
Then at approximately 120KM/hr, you feel something very similar but a lot less noticeable to the point where you don't see the RPM needle move but you feel like the car wants to go and slow down, go and slow down - as if there's something holding the car back every few seconds. It's extremely subtle at this speed.
Any suggestions on what it might be? I just had the car in for 40,000KM service but they couldn't find much wrong with it, although in fairness, the guy did say that given some of the other things they had to do to my vehicle, they didn't have much time to trouble shoot it today. I had the water pump replaced, power steering housing replaced as well as the oil consumption test done today.
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a 2011 A4 which thankfully doesnt have this problem. But my brothers B7 does. He's had it in the shop a few times and its throwing an emissions code. The tech suggested its some type of vacuum leak but cant find it. I've noticed it more on colder days when ive driven it.

For reference , what did you say to them about your problem? Maybe I can use the same lingo and get some help for once. I explained it, that between 2500 and 3100 RPMs the car flutters... they said... ok let us test drive it.
