Break in Period is all about Piston Ring seals
For those of you asking about the "Break-in Period" on your car, this is referring to the crucial first miles that will determine the seal of the Piston rings against the cylinder walls. I have heard both ride it hard and baby it for the first few hundred miles. From what I can get talking to various mechanics and car techs it is indeed best to drive it easy for the first few hundred but they did say EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE not all the time but rarely the seal can be aided by a short burst of speed, not exactly flooring it but just opening it up on the highway a few times. Hope this helps, feel free to argue just don't quote the damn owners manual , they aren't worried about the piston seal they are worried about you blowing other internals.
