Default AC Fan Speeds Stop Working

Hey guys -

Interesting issue here and can't seem to find a related problem on the forums here, or elsewhere. While driving the other night, on a two hour trip the interior of the car became warm while the AC was running around 68 - 70 F. It seems like the fan speed just dropped down to the "1" setting. Cold air was still coming out, but barely - and not enough to offset the 103 degree outside temperature of the nighttime desert. Manually changing the fan speed to the highest setting (12) didn't change anything. It's like you could hear the air blowing hard within the dash but nothing was coming out of the vents.

The problem seemed resolved after the car sat for an hour. Higher fan speeds worked and whatnot. Then we were making the two hour drive back to Las Vegas yesterday and it started happening again. I've never come across something like this and wondering if anyone has any ideas before I reach out to a mechanic. I'm not too mechanically inclined but always willing to give something a shot, if I am able to.

Car is a 2011 Audi A4 Avant. 67,000 miles. Haven't experienced any other issues with the car.

Thanks!

Usually the blower resistor, but sometimes it burns up the connector for the motor and we replace both. The resistor block is located on the blower motor itself via a few 5.5mm screws
