A4 MMI system malfunction
Hello all,
I hope someone can offer some advice on the following:
I own an A4, 2.0T, 2009 model (B8)
My alternator recently packed up, and that was repaired. The battery died in the process however is now ok since the alternator has resumed charging.
The problem is that the MMI system & radio does not turn on ever since this alternator problem. Everything else works fine, e.g. aircon, fans, lights etc...
Could the alternator have caused this?
Could a dead battery be the cause?
Could me disconnecting the battery have caused it?
Any help please?

I'm not sure about the newer models, but the older ones had a radio lockout function that would prevent anyone from using the radio if power was disconnected for some period of time (like a dead battery for example). The idea of the lockout function was as a theft deterrent and that you would need a code to return it to normal operation.
Call your local dealer and see if that might be the case with your car. If it is, they would be the only people who could scan it and get you the code (if you bought the car new, or if it has the original user manual in it, i think it should have the code in there).

I'll move this to the B8 A4 section, in case they have better info.
AFAIK, most of us copy the radio "code" in the owner's manual, in the "Radio" section, for just such an emergency. Dealers can/will pull the code from the Audi Mothership, for a fee. Some (very FEW) will do it free. Don't count of that being your particular dealershipd default setting, unless you happen to have an insider helping you, that is.
Check teh owner's manual, first. If it's not there, take a tube of your favorite lube over to teh dealership., and prepare to pay, one way or another, for the code.

Hello,
Thanks much for the response,
I went to Audi and they wanted to replace the entire unit.
Managed to find an after market garage who found the root cause. A blown fuse (behind the radio) - Cost about 25 Euro to fix.
