Hello all, this is my first post on this great site. I've driven a 2006 S4 Avant until yesterday when we took possession of a new 2012 A4 Avant. Wonderful car, we love it, but were startled to find that there is no rear warning signal when the car is reversing. I knew that the 2012 A4 Avant did not offer a rear facing camera, but had assumed, apparently wrongly, that the car would have the usual ultrasonic sensors to indicate proximity to something behind the car. I checked every setting of the MMI (this is a Canadian car) and couldn't find anything. Hopefully I've overlooked something, but if not, can anyone recommend an aftermarket product?

Thanks for the reply. All is well, the dealer has offered to install Park Assist. Nothing I had seen before on the Audi site indicated that Park Assist is a separate option, and given that I had ordered all the package options available, both my salesperson and I assumed, evidently wrongly, that Park Assist would have been included. In any event, I'm told that at least for the Canadian market, the rear camera option is not available and will not be, though it continues to be offered for other 2012 models.

 

All I can add to this is Audi is doing a poor job taking things OFF our cars or making us pay every nickel for dealer installed options. You might want to see if buying a VAGCOM with software would help you. I am going to order that for euro options we can turn on. Also check with OEM Plus and Kufatec.com

Examples like yours, my B6 S4 had storage trays under the seats, I just ordered and installed them in the B8. Crappy yellowish fog light bulbs that look like crap, had to order HID fogs and installed them. My avant doesn't have LED tailights or an option, for $50K + it would be nice to have the sedan option tailights. Park distance doesn't even show you where your about to hit (what side) like others do. Even Volkswagon has 3 year paid maintenence, factory Nav. Audi is starting to slip a little, hope they are paying attention.

 

This was one of the reasons we opted to buy a 2011 when we had the opportunity. The dealer warned us about the unavailability of the back-up camera system for the early 2012s with no assurance of when it would be available. Better price, too, but that compensates for the early depreciation hit!

Same here-although I got my info about the unavailability of the back-up camera from an Audi forum(might have been this one).
