wheel alignment on a B7 A4 AVANT.
Today I got a set of rims with a very good set of tires. I went to an alignment place to balance and align thr tyres. They found that the rear suspension was off at an angle, causing the tyres to wear on the inside. The man got then straight and when I drove off the car was horrible to drive. It is choppy and it wobbles. Must I take my car to audi so they can rectify?

If I remember correctly, in order for the car to align correctly, it needs weights. Apparently like BMW, the weights put it in a stance for correct alignment. Only Audi, BMW, and a European shop might know this. It's possible other shops know this but don't think it matters.
Not all aftermarket rims are built to the same quality as OEM rims. I've heard of aftermarket rims that shake no matter what you do due to poor build quality. That's not true of all aftermarket rims though. The other thing is if you got bigger wheels with shorter sidewalls, your going to feel everything. The shorter sidewalls are stiffer to handle the stresses that are concentrated on them, transmitting all road imperfections to the car.

B7Night is right. You have to have a shop that knows German cars do a full alignment with weights. It's going to cost more too. My dealership charges around $129 and I think I can save a few bucks at the local indie German specialist. Get it realigned properly.

Where I'm from both the dealer and the European shop charge $120 for a proper alignment. One of the dealers on the other side of the state actually gets away with charging $225 for an alignment. Apparently people are willing to pay that over there.
