Smile What is the difference between the Color LCD and the red pixelly one?

So I noticed that some A4s I've been looking at, well 2..., have a color LCD info screen in the gauge cluster as opposed to the traditional little red and yellow screen and I'm curious if that was part of a package or if that was a standalone upgrade or if they are even audi original screens or if they were upgraded afterward by the owners? I don't see what the screen does better than the red pixel ones other than make it a little bit harder to pay attention to the road at night?

The red pixelly one is on b5(96-01) models, whereas the color LCD screen is on b6(02-05) and b7(05.5-08) models.

That can't be true because I have a 2002 audi a4 currently and the it has the red pixelly one and I see a ton of the b7s and even a lot of b8s with the red pixel one still...

I have a 2005 B7 A4 base model with most options with color screen, and my mother has a 2008 B7 S-Line A4 with minimal options and she has the red pixelly screen.

Not sure what option/model dictates what screen you have.

i too have a 2008 with the red pixelly screen and the basic 6disc cd/radio. does the other one have the nav/MMS? maybe the radio option is the difference.

I'm not sure. I went to look at a 2006 at a nearby dealership and saw it had the color screen but it had the stock symphony audio or whatever, it wasn't the upgraded nav, but it did have features like bi-xenons and power closing mirrors so maybe it was a like premium package? But not all cars with bi-xenons and power-closing mirrors and the like have the color screen so I have no idea.

hmm thats wierd. i would say go online and design a new audi on the website but the options/packages might not be the same as on previous models. maybe call the dealer and ask if its buggin ya

is there a problem with one of the cars you're lookin at? or just personal preference?

Could be the trip computer. I have a 2006 without one and have the red/yellow screen.

The color LCD came as part of the premium package option, which also includes sunroof, homelink buttons in visor, leather seats w/ power passenger seat. And I believe it's meant to look nicer when attached to the oem nav.

The bi-xenons and folding mirrors are part of the lighting package, separate option from premium package.

I was just curious if the screen served any real additional purpose over the red/yellow pixelly one other than looking nicer is all.

Oh thanks Damianiac311! But were sunroof and power seats an additional add on other than the premium package? It's just I've seen some with sunroofs and both power seats, didn't check the visor to be honest, but they also didn;t have the color screen.
