Using too much oil?

Using too much oil?
Hi folks,
Yet another oil related question.
I have 3K more to go for the 25K mile service, but got the low engine oil
sign yesterday. Last had it changed/filled for the 15k service. And
called the dealer for a oil change after 5K of that, but he told me to
wait for the 25K service.
Could be a leak or sensor issue, don't know. The manual says something
about the dealer having a way to figure out if your car uses oil too
fast.
Any idea what could be going on? And how many miles is it safe to drive
before I get an appointment with the dealer, as need to drive to work.
Thanks.

id say get the car checked immediately. anything oil related you dont really want to delay, could have serious consequences for the car. as for the changes, even though they say its ok to wait longer, i would make it a habit to change the oil every 4-5000 miles (this goes without saying but, fully synthetic). my $.02.

Went to Jiffy Lube for filling a quart. Before I got back from the counter,
the guy had filled Pennzoil, said they don't keep Castrol. But he said it's
compatible(5W 40), and that Audi goes with Castrol only because they
have some tie up. You folks know if Pennzoil is OK, or should I have it changed?
Thanks.

Here's a link with the current VW/Audi approved oils list. There are some Penzoil on there, but not necessarily whatever was put in your car. But you should be fine until you get the scheduled change.

And like phosphate said, it's good to keep a couple quarts in the trunk. You can get Castrol Syntec or Mobil 1 or whatever you prefer at AutoZone or Walmart, etc.

i work at an Audi dealership in Orlando, FL and we get this "problem" all the time. with these newer 2.0T engines, it seems the harder you drive the car the better they do. We get a lot of casual drivers come in with the min oil light on because they are not getting their engines hot enough to seal all the rings and gaskets, so the oil that gets through just burns off. We have come to this conclusion because not a single loaner car we have has ever needed an oil top off. Now I'm not saying that if you drive the crap out of your car that you wont burn off any oil, cause you will, but your engine will burn less because it is better sealed. The min oil light comes on when you are only a quart low, so don't freak out when it comes on! You will most likely burn at least 1 quart of oil between your 10,000 mile services, and unless you are burning a quart in less than 1000 miles of your last oil change warranty wont do anything about it
