tranny problem need some assistance
i have an 07 automatic A4 2.0T(not a quattro) when i bought the car a year ago it had 91k miles on it. for as long as i have had it it has never given me any problems. I just got a new timing belt on the car 6 weeks ago. It now has 101k on it and just about 2 weeks ago i started my car and heard this funny sound and thought to myself what the h*** was that? then i looked down at my dash and my gears started to flash and my transmission light came on. the car still drove just fine i just could not see what gear i was in. i went to the gym that day and when i came back out to start the car it was fine and the transmission light was not on anymore. it has driven fine ever since. then today it started again but without the noise. but when i have the E brake on and put the car in reverse the revs drop to about 700-800 which is below the normal 900 idle. but once i push down the foot break it goes back to 900. i'm properly going to take the car to the dealer this friday. but i would like some feed back to what my be causing this

You posted in wrong section firstly. Should be b7 section if I am not mistaken. Your car is new enough you should have driven it straight dealership and had them look at it. Another thing when you have your car in gear, reverse or drive, your rpm's will change when compared to park. If you reverse and then press break your car assumes the 900rpm's which is a sort of a waiting/stationary rpm. When you lift off break it assumes you are moving and then rpm's change, in your case they go slightly down till you add a little gas to get going. When you reversed and applied the e-brake you are bypassing the brake pedal in effect and the car will not realize this and keep the rpm's at the non braking level, which is slightly lower than when sitting still. As for your noise and light situation, I cannot answer that. I would have to hear it and since you had the transmission light came on once already chances are a trouble code was saved and the dealership can read that.

An '07 with FWD, non-quattro? I'll bet you have the infamous CVT automatic transmission, eh?
If so... a forum search for CVT problems will yield you a ton of info on the subject... unfortunately most of it is expensive doom and gloom.
I was warned a long time ago to never get any car, especially an Audi, with a CVT transmission. They're nothing but trouble and super expensive to repair/replace.
PS: if yours is the CVT, and it's still able to drive at the moment, you probably need to *IMMEDIATELY* have the trans fluid flushed and changed, and have all the filters replaced as well, IIRC, there are at least two filters, an internal and an in-line filter. Some folks add an external inline filter as well to help thwart future problems and also change their fluid every 25-30K miles as well.

When you take it to the dealer, you might want to see if the CVT's software was updated. There was an update quite some time ago. The update corrected an issue where if you were slowing to a stop, at speeds below 25 mph, you would feel a rough idle feel for like an instant and it would go away. Almost the feeling you get when you forget to hit the clutch and the engine starts to run rough just before it stalls. Unfortunately I can't at the moment remember the TSB connected with it. I had a FWD loaner for a couple days that didn't have the software update, and it was noticable.
