service reminder reset

service reminder reset
so i got an oil change today but no at an authorized dealer
anyway, we figured out how to reset the service reminder according to the manual but was wondering if anyone knew what interval it is set at and if/how you can change it? i think its set to 3k miles but that seems silly since the dealer said we could go 5k between oil changes. unless the 3k is for the 'recommended services'

Mine goes off between 4200 and 5000 miles. The car learns your driving behavior, and adjusts the interval accordingly. If you are a person that does what would be considered severe driving, the car will prompt you to change more frequently. I would be careful about going 10,000 miles. Turbo's are hard on oil. Audi use to say 10,000 miles on the old 1.8t, until it was discoved that the car had major sludge problems if the oil was not changed more often. The problem was resolved I think, on the 2.0t, but I still would not want to risk engine damage. More frequent oil changes give me peace of mind.

yea i noticed the owners manual said it took about 300 miles to 'reset' the timer/mileage.
i didnt notice at what mileage it went off the first time but ill keep an eye on it now.
i would never go 10k between oil changes, no matter audi or the oil says. that just seems to be asking for trouble. i know it can be done but it cant be good. i was pretty **** bout my last car and always did the oil change around 3k but that was a 95 ford probe :P
i went about 6-7k this time on the audi and was really impressed. i didnt notice any performance or mpg loss and the oil never ran low on the dipstick. and its cheaper to buy peace of mind than a new engine lol

I don't know about pulling on any buttons. What i did based on what my owners manual said was push wrench button on dashboard turn ignition
Switch on and when service days and miles are dislplayed push down on the odo button. The miles remaining and days remainging were cleared
Out. What is then displayed is _ _ _ _ next to miles and days.
7 days later still waiting for mileage and days remaining to be displayed. This is on an a4 2.0t 2008

Great. Happy driving! I'm about 200 miles from my next oil change. 10,000 miles or two oil changes from the upcoming one will be a real killer. I'll have an oil change, timing belt/waterpump change, and it'll be time for new sparkplugs all at the same time. Bye bye checking account!
