Default Repair costs?

Hi guys,

I own a 2006 Audi A4, 72000miles.

Ran great till now.
Upper control arm pop in sharp turns (700?).
Shop says motor mount is leaking hydraulic fluid (500?).
Shop also says the Transmission fluid flush is due and wants 700 bucks for that even tough the maintenance manual disagrees.
Timing Belt is due (per manual), they want to replace the water pump while they are at it.

And to top it all off the 3rd gear started to shift rough (synchro?).

I love the car but it's only worth about 12000 now. I'm thinking about just trading it in. I was the 2nd owner from 23000 miles and ever only had to replace a fuel sensor and a trunk latch. All maintenance has been kept up on. I'm shocked.

How much do you guys think it'll cost me? What is actually due?

I would look at trading (won't get as much) or private sell. The price for the timing belt and water pump here in Germany without tax is about $1600.00 at Audi. Of course German prices are always a lot higher than US from what I have seen. My '07 has ran great as well but I know as time goes by costs will catch up to me. I was thinking of selling mine before this happens. I currently have 61tmls. I hate to do it but...

Had the timing belt&water pump done on my '07 at the stealership for $980.Also had 75,000 mile service, which included, oil change, lube the door hinges, sunroof track, wiper hinges.Seemed to tighten the shift and steering linkage.(might be my imagination)All total about $1,350.Was happy with the result and drove a '12 A4 loaner while it was being repaired.Have read that you may get the TB&WP done for $700 at an independent
shop.I wanted the warranty and piece of mind knowing it was done correctly.
Gotta pay to play!!

I'd recommend you find a reputable German shop that's not the dealership to do some of this. I had a local shop replace my thermostat and change my oil for about $100 less than the dealership quoted me for just the t-stat! I've heard you can get the timing belt done for under $1k if you're not at the dealership.

That being said, you don't need the timing belt yet if that's the 2.0T engine. They changed the service interval to 110k miles I think it is. There was some misprint due to km/miles conversion in the original.

Also, the quote for the motor mount sounds high. I had mine done at the dealership for right around $400.

Even if you put $2k work in it, it'll cost you less than trading it in the end.

Also, yes you should definitely replace the water pump while the timing belt is done. It's all the same labor to get to it and it's not a terribly expensive part. If you don't, you'll likely pay a few hundred more for them to replace it when it goes out before your next timing belt interval. They're not jerking you around about that one.
