Quattro Grinding Noise when reversing round corner
Hi Guys
Newbie Audi A4 owner here. Just picked up my Audi A4 3.2 Quattro 05 plate today. Before getting the M3, i had a 3.2 A3 which was a beast.
Just got home with the motor and decided to take the wife out for a drive, while we were backing off the drive and giving it a bit of left hand steering, i noticed that i had to give a fair bit more revs to get it to move than normal and there was a slight grinding or bumping noise coming from the rear end.
Tried it again a bit later and i had the same thing, when reversing on the flat it takes a good few revs to get it to move and keep moving and there is a slight grinding noise from the rear diff area, has anyone got any idea's ???
61k - Sketch Serv History, last at Bradford on 23k and 1 non AMD at 37k
On another note, what a motor, ill list later all the reason that it is better than the M3......it is quite a big list

After hearing the noise get worse all day and realising that it did it while i drive forward and go round a corner as well as when reversing decided to get some advice.
After trying a few garages today, the answer was the same from both, rear diff is snookered
Prices seem to be ranging from an est £3k from Audi to £700 from a garage i use for the works vans.
Hopefully the garage that i bought it off is going to do the right thing and sort it out ?!

Update No 2, took the motor to the audi garage, the engineer drove it orund the car park and said one comment......wrong tyres !!
Explained that the car is under warranty and i needed him to be sure cause my warranty will run out in 30 days, he said he was 100% and he had seen lots cars with the same problem, the tyres are cheap copies !!

That grinding noise when reversing could be a sign of something serious with the drivetrain. While you’re troubleshooting your Quattro, if you’re also into tech and development, you might find Unity interesting. It’s a fantastic platform https://store.crowdin.com/unity for creating simulations and interactive experiences, which could even help in visualizing and diagnosing car mechanics issues in a more interactive way.
