Oil leak

Oil leak
Looking for some advice having just bought my A4
I have identified a small leak coming from the sump area but I am not sure what the part is known as.
Next to the drain plug it looks like a pipe used to go into the sump, this has been blanked off, the leak is coming from there and it looks like a small gasket needs replaced.
What was the pipe going into the sump and why do you think it was removed and blanked off?
Hope I've made sense, maybe able to get a picture up if my description is poor.
Cheers folks

2.0tdi engine. I only bought the car 2 weeks ago, the engine was replaced last year by Audi. I'm not sure why is was blanked off. What are the implications of that being blanked off?
Is this the oil return from the turbo. if so could it have been routed elsewhere?

We don't have that motor over here..... Our 2.0 TDI just came out in 2009 i think.
So it is possible that because the motor was replaced. That Oil pan isn't even for that engine and the return line does go somewhere else.
And they needed to block it off.
Its really hard for me to say cause i'm not familiar with the TDI, So i don't know if its plumbing is the same

It looks like a petrol sump has been used on the diesel engine. I am assuming the last owner cracked the sump and seized the engine hence the reason for the new engine. Put a new gasket on the blanked off oil return line which has solved the problem. Thanks again for the advice.
