Default misbehaving driver's side window :(

ok so a couple days ago my driver's side window starting acting funny. im sure most of you know that if you disconnect the battery or do something else weird, you will lose the auto open/close function of the window but this is different. when i auto open the window it goes all the way down like normal. but when i go to auto close it, the window only goes about half way up and then goes back to down 'til only an inch is left showing. it does this every time now. even when i try to put it up 'manually' it stops at the same point and goes back down. after a few tries i can coax it back up all the way by doing the reset procedure from the owner's manual but as soon as i use the auto down it gets all screwed up again.

anyone know what causes this or how to fix it???

i had similar problem with the infiniti that I used to own. I took it to the dealer and they said that the reason for that was the tint on the window. It somehow got caught up. I have tinted windows on my audi too and the passenger side window has been acting funny lately. I havent really had the chance to look into it but thats my only guess for now

hmm that sucks. my windows are tinted too but the film is not peeling off.

somehow i did 'fix it' today.
idk if i was lucky or actually did fix it but its back to normal so thats what counts. all i did was crack the window a lil bit and park the car while i got the mail and after that its back to normal

Audi has the worst design of window regulators and it hasn't changed in 10 years..... steel braided cables runs on plastic pulley wheels...... eventually they wear into them and bind.... window senses thermal overload and engages "pinch protection" sending the window back down

I have this same problem. It seems to only happen when I crack my front windows on a hot day (~110F). Once the car cools down, the problem goes away.

Not only Audi, other vehicles I've owned did it too...Try some soapy water on the felt slides. They dry out, get dirt and crap in them and friction goes up causing over current drop out as above by Audi Tek.

ok so the problem has come back with a vengeance. i live in NY and its getting cold already so i dont think its a heat problem. i havent been able to fix it myself (although i havent tried much) but its really annoying! i cant afford to take it to an audi dealer so does anybody know what to do?!
