Looking for an 05-06 A4..which to choose
My name is Ivan.
I am looking to buy an 05 or 06 A4 when my lease is up. I am def looking for a manual trans. I really want a 3.0 V6, however if I go with the 2.0T with a manual trans, will I see much difference between the engines? Looking at an S4 is prob out of my budget..but I can dream.
I have read much on the older turbos having problems,b5 and b6..how are the b7's?

I will have about 18g's to spend. However I want to get something that is still w/in warranty so I can purchase an extended warranty. I made that mistake once with a BMW, a week later I was out $6g's for a transmission. Excuse my ignorance, but what does "reflash" mean.
At what mileage do the turbos start to fault?

I could be wrong, but CPO cars usually sell for a bit more, and you won't be looking at an 05. You *might* find an 06 CPO car, and the price might be about right, but I'm thinking you're going to spend a tad more (maybe 2k) and your car will be an 07.
A "reflash" is changing the programming of the Engine Control Unit to modify it's operating parameters. The fuel efficiency thing I will give a nod to, the power boost may make it more powerful on a dyno, but the 3.2 has smoother power delivery throughout it's rev range, and the exhaust note is much sweeter.

Thanks for the education on terminology..my friend has a dealer license here in NJ. So I might go the wholesale route, however I bought a BMW 7 series this way and got burned..that's why I am thinking going wholesale ..with something that still is in warranty.
Any thoughts on CVT's??

The 07's will be coming off lease. The 06's will be falling off warrenty this year, unless like me, a person buys a CPO car which gives you two more years past the original warrenty. Get a CPO car, the A4 is fairly reliable, but like any German car, they are expensive to fix if something should happen to break. When I asked the Audi dealership what the cost would be if they pulled the CPO off the 06 A4 I eventually bought, they told me it would only drop the price $1000. My tires were more than half worn, so because of the CPO my car was given new tires at 35,000 miles, I also demanded new front rotors because the originals were warped, and got them. So the extra $1000 dollars paid off with a car with new tires and new rotors and peace of mind of extra warrenty. After the reliablility headache of my Jetta, I would not buy used without the CPO. Just remember the earlier in the model run your car is, the more likely not all of the bugs were worked out. My Jetta was a prime example.

CVT's can burn in hell. Run fast.
That being said. A chpped 2.0t will have better gas mileage and also be faster than a 6cyl. It is pretty much a no brainer.
