FWIW, I just looked up the kit for the 2006 A4 2.0T Timing Belt, and BLAUParts sells the "Basic" kit for $189.95, and the "Enhanced" kit for $295.95. They also rent to tool kit to make the job far easier for a whopping $38.
I'm thinking a timing belt job on the OP's car shouldn't take more than five or six hours; even if the person doing the work has never done that particular job before.

I have been thinking about taking this job on myself. I think it is a bit itimidating since you have to remove (loosen) the whole front clip. I am thining a weekend with a buddy or two and just about anyone should be able to figure it out. I am undecided myself. I am the same guy that paid to have the diverter value replaced as I could access one of the bolts (didn't have the right tool).

It is not that bad of a job, just save the beer drinking until after you have fixed it and not during, I just did mine a couple months back and cost me about $500-600 in parts but that was timing and serp plus changing all of the parts with VW/Audi parts....
