just got a A4 2.0T 100k timeing belt waterpump replacement?
Just got a used A4 2.0T. It was frm a private owner no clue about car grandparents. I looked over car super clean engine great. But how can I tell if the timebelt been replaced? Any help would be great to help gas and performance. Thanks in advance.

If they didn't know I would probably take it to a mechanic to see if they can tell. Otherwise plan on changing it. I would rather spend a grand replacing the belt than having it fail and take the engine out in the process. Someone else on here might be able to give insight into what to look at for clues if it was replaced.

I don't suppose the previous owners still have the service records; might be worth your time to ask.

Also worth having a word with your local Audi Dealer, if it has been done 'any' Audi Dealer, then they will have records of it been done, and can tell in seconds from their computer screens.
If you find that Dealer doesn't have a record of it being changed, and there is no record of any other garage changing it, then get it done immediately, visual inspection doesn't mean anything usually and cannot tell any useful info from just looking at it.

I agree. This is one of those things that spending the $1000 now (or possibly a bit more) will save you multiple thousands later when the belt breaks and takes your engine internals with it.

Fortunately a DIY job will cost considerably less than $1,000; if the OP is so inclined.

Wow. Great info and advice. Thanks all. I have taken your advice and info and am planning to bring to a dealer. 1300.00 is a good investment. I didn't look at the arfax shows at 105000.00 brought to dealer no specifics on work ill give a call. All in all going to change it. Wish I had the manuel. Thanks again. Safe. Driveing

Why not? Compared to the tedious but doable 2.8 and 3.0 V6, the 2.0T is sure to be far easier to do the timing belt on and certainly doable for the average back-yard mechanic.
