Default Issues with manual component of the tiptronic

I have an 06 A4 2.0T and on a drive home this afternoon began having issues with the manual component on the tiptronic transmission in that it just won't engage. When I move the shifter over into the manual area, it doesn't recognize it although it was an hour earlier in the day. I also noticed that the transmission display on the dash has all of the options highlighted as opposed to just the engaged option.

I had a dime slide in between the corrugated plastic piece and the shifter trim a couple of months back and wasn't able to retrieve it. Today when I went to shift into the manual it felt as though something may have been causing some resistance in shifting (perhaps the dime). Anyone know if there's a possibility that an electrical connection got disturbed perhaps by the dime and that might be causing my issues?

If so - how do I take apart the console to or remove the trim around the shifter to get access to this area?

Any help or thoughts appreciated! Thanks.
