I think I broke it....the Diverter Valve
So I drive a 2007 A4 2.0 Quattro S-Line M. Yesterday I noticed a funny sound whenever I was in boost and the car seemed to lack the power it used to have. The sound was more like a soft whistle than the sound of the turbo. But still very noticable and different that it has ever been. The car is chipped with a full exhaust, dp and intake. My best un-educated guess is the diverter valve... I noticed on the way to work this morning that when I stepped on the gas in top gear to try to accelerate around someone that the car pulled pretty well until about 3k RPM and then really seemed to let up.
My questions are, is this consistent behavior with a bad dv? If not, any ideas? How much would it cost to replace and what do you guys recommend? I figure I might as well upgrade instead of just replace at this point. Also, I do not have a boost gauge (yet). After this is fixed I think that will be next.
Last question...what is the damage that can be done driving the car in this condition. I am supposed to take it to south GA this weekend (~4 hrs), but if this has the possibility of causing some major damage to the turbo or something then I can ride with someone else. I do still need to drive the car to work everyday, so it will have to be driven some.
Here are some pics of the car: www.valdosta.edu/~tbtravis
Thanks for your help.

If it is indeed the diverter valve (which it does sound like), then you won't hurt anything by driving it. A broken diverter valve just lets your boosted air into the atmosphere, meaning you don't get any of the power gains from your turbo. Everything else will still work the same. It will just mean that instead of driving a chipped 2.0T with 250 hp like you were, you'll be driving an NA 2.0 with 175ish hp.
As far as a different diverter valve, just get the latest OE one. It should be more than enough to handle a chip. I don't have hte part number for that, maybe someone else does...

umm closer to like 145 hp but yea your car will be fine you just might notice you are going to use gas alot faster because the ecu is now going to be running the car richer then usual cause it still thinks its getting the boost it should but its not.....
i recommend forge dv solid steel no plastic diaphragm pretty easy install too, good for about like 350-400 hp i think

i was talking about this guy's quote
do a search around other forums for part#: 06H 145 710 D
save your hard earned cash, the new OEM one does NOT have the faulty diaphragm and has worked in stage 3 cars according to reputable tuner APR and others

sorry but i'm not paying $250 for a part that does the same as a $80 part, i don't care what it's made out of so long as it supports the boost.

Why pay for a part that requires you to maintain it. They are hard enough to get to and install but to have to remove it countless times to maintain is just stupid. Especially spending the extra money that does the same job as the best OEM valve.
