Default How reliable is the A4, 2008 CPO?

Hello, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but am hoping to get some advice Am in the market for a used car less than $24K, and read that the 2008 A4 is decently reliable...but I'm wondering how true this is? I found a 2008 A4 2.0T quattro with navigation, moonroof, leather 37K miles listed at a dealership for $22999, NADA clean trade in is $21950. Says it can be CPOed but it was sold several times at auction according to Carfax:

02/21/2011 37,172 miles
Auto Auction
Listed as a dealer vehicle
Sold at auction in Eastern Region
02/24/2011 37,410 miles
Virginia

Chantilly, VA Passed emissions inspection
02/26/2011 Online Listing Vehicle offered for sale
02/28/2011 Audi Certified Dealer Offered for sale as an

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

If the last person to own it was the dealer your buying it from and they CPO'd and are selling it to you.... Its good to go.

You have to understand..... dealerships are mostly sold out and backordered on new audis..... Germany does not make them fast enough for the American market.

So in order to make money.... they are boosting their used car sales by any means necessary..... Even if that means going out of state to get them.

Miles are low but it's NOT certified? I would look for one that is CPO. You don't know how the other owners treated them. We recently purchased a CPO '08 A4 2.0T with 31k miles, navi, non Quattro for $23k from a dealer. Not a killer price but very decent from a dealer. See if they will CPO it and sell it to you at that price. Never hurts to ask.....If not, decide what the CPO is worth to you and how much you are willing to spend on the A4. Since we are in CA, I try to only purchase west coast owned cars that, usually, aren't subject to harsh winters and road salt.

Mine was fairly reliable until a few decent problems over 70k miles. I would make sure you get CPO as it can save you alot of money if you keep the car a while. Piece of mind.

i was going to start a thread and ask the question but since you brought up the issue here i go lol

-i have 40,000k on my audi a4 b7
-i have that audi total care or whatever you call it where my services are paid for atleast the scheduled services are.
-as far as reliability goes should i be worried to get out of the warranty??? i kind of am because all i hear is that the 2.0t is problematic after 70k or 90k and i drive about 2k a month so ill be out of the warranty come sometime july ..
-should i consider financing a warranty through audi???? because i know they are expensive i was told they range from 2000-5000 dollars
-i hate to say this .... but if reliability becomes an issue, a subaru wrx might have to come thru.

thanks in advance bringamac92

Well I am paranoid when it comes to German cars and warranty. I won't own one without. I had a cam failure that took out my whole head about 80 something K miles. About 2 weeks before my warranty ran out. Got lucky and traded the car right after. That will have to be a decision on you as many people dont have warranty and are fine.

Its like health insurance and never going to the doctor. It can be expensive either way. I prefer to pay more monthly and be insured just in case.

there are aftermarket warranty companies like Fidelity that you can pay montly for extended warranty.

You will need it.

2.0 has it highest problems from 50 - 100k in miles

I was briefly considering getting extened warranty(Fidelity and such) when at 45K miles.
Dealer quoted around 3K for this. I got busy with other stuff and checked back
with the dealer 2K miles later, and he said the price went up

Anyways, I'm 200 miles short of 50K now. Have dropped the extended warranty idea.
Getting into dangerous territory, will see how it goes :-(

yeah i was considering going with an aftermarket company to get an extended warranty, just havent had the time to do research as to which company's price is better, deductibles, whats covered whats not, i will want to do that sooner than later, if worst comes to worst ima gamble it (go without the warranty) and see where it goes...
