Default The great b7 hunt

First time Audi buyer. I have had a few (6) VW's in the past. 2001 Bug and Golf with 1.8T and a 2002 Passat VR6 GLX 4motion wagon are the last ones. We have moved on to a Lexus RX330 and now a 08 Xterra. I love the Xterra, but it is a bit truck like for my wife and she will only drive the Odyssey now. So I'm looking for a daily driver that both my wife and I will drive from time to time. It needs to be an auto and quattro. I don't plan on modifying it. (I have a 93 Toyota MR2 Turbo for that)

What would be a better car to look for? 2.0T or 3.2? I think I could be happy with either. Considerations for me are.

1. Reliablity
2. Color Combo
3. How it drives
4. Option
5. Gas Mileage

Right now I am debating between these 5 cars. All are Gray unless noted otherwise.

2006 - 3.2 Sedan - $20k - 57k miles - CPO

2008 - 2.0T Secan - $18.5k - 62k miles

2006 - 2.0T Avant - $18.5k - 57k miles

2006 - 2.0T Sedan - $17k - 68k miles - Navi

2007 - 2.0T Sedan - $19k - 60k miles - White and Tan (favorite color combo)

Which seems like the best deal? Is the 3.2 more reliable then the 2.0T? Will it be a quieter car and better highway cruiser?

before i bought my a4 i had the same question to answer; 2.0T or 3.2. i love the 2.0T because you have all of the power that you'll need plus you get fuel economy.

i'd get the 2007 since it's 2.0T and you like the color. the 2007 was the last year that they provided a full size spare with a matching wheel. i love that feature.

you definately won't be disappointed with an audi.

Did you get a chance to drive both? I am having a hard time finding a 3.2 to drive that is closer then the one I am considering.

My vote is for the Avant. Low mileage, Great cargo space (Sedans are no good for hauling a dog or much cargo), reliable 2.0t (as long as you replace items from my stikey), and one of the few cars out that a wagon in my opinion looks better than a sedan.

CPO on a 2006 is an Oxymoron as you get 5years /100k from the build which has to be expiring any day. Waste to spend extra on a useless warranty. The 3.2 is a great engine and reliable but only to be bought if you do not plan to mod at all. No power to be made.

I drove the wagon. It was dirty and scratched up. I hadn't had a chance to drive the 2.0T on the highway. Stock form it is just enough not to be pissed. Way better then B6 with 1.8T.

The V6 was sold before I got to see it. The CPO would have extend the warranty for 2 years and to 100k. Audi's CPO sucks though. $85 per service? Non-transferable? Come on! I loved the CPO on our Passat.

I also drove a 2006 G35x. The interior and styling have aged since I first saw them at the LA Auto show in 2003. They drive nice and the car has a mans motor. It had me questioning if the A4 was a chicks car and that I would have to get an S4 if I was going to get an Audi.

Another car came up that might work. It was a little more then I wanted to spend, but seems to fit perfect. It is a 2008 Avant 3.2 - White and tan. 22k for $27k. They just got it in. It was clean except some hit every curb in town with it. I am curious to see how they clean it up before moving it up front. I'm guessing 4 new wheels and tires on it would be in order.

That's pretty high--you could probably find a B8 sedan for that price. Maybe it's the 3.2 driving it up--I'm more of a 2.0T guy.

i test drove both engines before i bought the 2.0T and i didn't notice that much difference in power. mind you, i was a bit nervous to floor it during a test run.

If you care for Power a chipped 2.0t is the only option. You will kick yourself if you get the 3.2 and decide you want more power. It won't happen. If you can afford an S4 and the gas bill that would be the ultamite for sure.

Secondly that price on this other car is way high. You can buy a B8 for that kind of money which are roomier and have the newer / better 2.0t.

I think it is more that I was not happy with the 2.0T in stock form. I think I would be with the 3.2, but can't find them which makes me think they will be a pain to get worked on. If I am going to spend closer to 30k on a B7 I will start looking for a S4, but at that price range I would open myself up to BMW 335xi.

Most B7s around here are in the $22-24k range. I can't see the 3.2 adding that much, so if they're asking almost $30k, they're WAY out of the ballpark.

UPDATE: So, I just went and looked and it does seem the Avants are more rare and more expensive. Good luck with your search. The more I see, the more I'm convinced that I got my car at JUST the right time and that it would be impossible to replace it for what I paid!
