Goodbye and thanks to the community
I seem to have run out of Audis, so it is time to say goodbye and thanks to everyone here. Unfortunately, I was involved in an accident last month. I was stopped at a red light and someone rear-ended me at 45 miles an hour. The Audi was great and did what it was supposed to do. Unfortunately, my A4 was converted into an A3.7 and the insurance company totaled the car.
My wife, my son and I came away with little more than a few bruises and sore backs and necks.
I only got 3 months use from my Unitronics program...but I would suggest it to anyone with a B7. The APR chip on my B5 was also great.
What I didn't appreciate was AoA.
I fortunately escaped problems with the B5. The timing belt didn't break prematurely, nor did the sunroof drains get blocked and cause interior flooding and shorting out of the transmission control box. I escaped the sludge issues too. I gave up the car with 225K miles when I tried to make a U turn, hit the curb, and cracked my air conditioning radiator.
With the B7, I did end up with an oil burner much to my anger. I was even more incensed when AoA said that "performance cars use oil". Unfortunately, I would burn a quart every 1800 miles, which AoA considers "normal". Because I drive 35,000+ miles a year, this meant I would have to add oil almost every 2 weeks.
Because of this AoA and VW lost a customer, and his family for life. I have a very nice Turbo 2.5L Volvo C70 as the replacement. Polestar programming and a strut brace make the car quite nice. Surprisingly, I get higher highway cruising mileage than with the A4 2.0, even with the upgraded programming.
My daughter needed a car while she is going to University of Denver. I found a nice Volvo S40 T5 AWD, (which doesn't have oil issues like the Audi 2.0).
To all of my friends, I wish you well. Have fun, Change the oil often. Don't forget to drain fluids and take care of the "little things" before your car deteriorates.
Best wishes from NJ
