Drives me nuts to see my mpg plunge when i get stuck having to buy "up to 10% ethanol" in gas. It is a rip off...you dont get a price 10% less than pure gasoline just 20% less gas mileage!!! Why 10% why not 100% or NOT AT ALL!!!

 

100% ethonal gives about 25% less MPG.. that 10% should only give 2-3% less, not 20%.

 

I could live with it at 2-3% but that isnt the facts on my car. Normally farting around town i get 620 miles per tank on 100% leaded gas....with ethanol 480 per tank??

 

Really? You're running *leaded* gas and you get 620 miles per tankful? Sounds like a load of horsesh*t to me. Maybe your math sucks.

I wasn't even aware you could still buy leaded gas at all.

 

Just FYI, Most gas stations only carry 10% Ethanol. At least here in Florida you can pretty much not find any pure gas anymore. Not sure on the rest of the states. Sometimes the Ethanol is just not posted. I would prefer pure gas mainly because I would rather eat corn and feed people than waste it on fuel.

Have to wonder about that 620 miles per tank though. You sure you didnt carry a one that wasnt there and meant 520 per tank? Whats you tank capacity?

2wdBlazer: Ethanol mixed gas is actually the minority.. unless you live in cetain 'smog corridors'... I dont have mixed gas here.

 

yeah i get 520 from shell, 480 from mobil

 

where is everyone pulling these numbers from on a good tank ill see 380 in town and ive hit a little over 500 on the highway.

 

Dunno, but I've seen people post milage all over the spectrum... I actually get around 350 in mixed, 420 highway.

 

That's because the corn lobby makes sure that the gummint demands a certain amount of ethanol content to prop up their corporate welfare.
