Engine noise with video (crap quality).
First off I'm new to both the forum and to Audi. I've owned this car about 6months. The car is an '06 A4 2.0t Quattro with just under 61K miles.
I bought the car with around 45K miles and until I let a friend drive it, and said friend rear ended someone, it did not make this noise. There was always a little noise, I figured it was due to the injectors and twin cam, but nothing like this.
I had the Audi dealership do all repairs, they were minimal. New front bumper, grill, and paint. There was no damage to the hood or quarters.
When I went to pick the car up I had to have them readjust the bumper as it was not adjusted properly When I came back to pick up the car, again, I started it up and heard this noise.
I let the dealership know about the noise and had them look at it. They informed me that it was not unusual and nothing to be worried about. "They all make that noise." Well, it didn't make it before, and it isn't just on cold starts; the noise stays the same even on a warmed up engine. When I bought this car I bought it outright, sign papers, transfer funds, paid in full, it's mine. That have anything to do with the dealer not wanting to admit there is anything wrong with the car?
I know it sounds silly, but to be honest... this is the first car I have ever owned that isn't 40+ years old and I didn't build.
All oil changes are, and have always been, done at the dealership every 5K miles.
Any thoughts on what is going on, or is this "normal" engine noise for these engines?

Tough to tell from the video but it sounds normal to me. I have a 2005.5 a4 2.0t and it's always sounded like that. I questioned it before I bought the car but now understand that it's mainly due to the high pressure fuel injectors. Maybe there's a noise in the video I'm not hearing ?
Did your dealer check for any recalls? I just recently had my ignition coils replaced due to a recall I was unaware of, and while at the dealer I learned there's also a recall on my fuel pressure sender and PCV valve. I didn't have time to get those done yet but will soon. Not sure if any of the same recalls apply to the '06....and also not sure if replacing these will clear any noises but I'll update this if they do.
One last thing, I cannot confirm this so maybe someone else can, but I've heard the purge valve can also produce some "ticking" sounds and is prone to getting stuck open. Maybe the accident caused that valve to stick open? I don't really know, just mentioning what I've heard.

Yeah. Even brand new, the cars are loud. It's just how they're built.
All I can say is that prior to the accident, your car likely made the same sound, but you weren't critical over hearing it. Now that it's from the dealer, you're looking for something to be wrong, so you're aware of it.
I had a similar occurrence with an "air rush" sound that appears to come from the passenger side front when the car is boosting. It wasn't a typical sound, but I hadn't heard it prior. Then after getting my car back, it was there.
After 2-3 weeks, I didn't hear it any longer, leading me to believe that it's always been there, but now I'm listening for something to be wrong so I pick up on it.
