RE: Chipping the Audi B7

I've had the APR 91, stock and security lock programs in my B7 since 800 miles, it now has 27k miles. The APR program is undetectable, unless they remove the ecu and send it to Germany for inspection. Whenever I take my car in to the dealer for service, I switch the program back to stock and lock it.To my knowledge, no techs has ever detected the APR program that is set to stock and locked. Also, the ecu does log boost so they can't tell what your car was running. Only when they hook up a laptop to the port then take the car for a drive, by then, it would be running the stock program.

If you do chip your car, couple of things might break. Those are your DV and PCV, they are known to break due to increased boost pressure from the ECU flash. Mine broke after a week, I set the program back to stock, locked it and the dealer replaced both parts with upgraded units under warranty.

As for APR vs. GIAC, the performance is nearly identical. Some dealership will flash the ecu with GIAC.

Joe when they replaced your DV and PCV did you happen to ask if they were just replacing them on every car or just ones with the broken parts?

The techs can find out pretty easily if your car is chipped ask the techs on the forums its quite simple for them. As for what joe said they can also pull the ECU out of the car and check to see if its chipped.

^^They already know the parts are weak, that's why Audi has the updated versions for those parts. They replace them as they break. When I took mine in, their tech did a pressure check and found both parts failed. And yes, they did ask me if my car was chipped and told them no, I just played dumb with them

Positive Crankcase Ventilation Valve, you will know when that one leaks. Noticeable signs are lower boost pressure and oil coming out of the oil cap. So if you open your hood, and see oil all over the oil cap, most likely the pcv is faulty.

RE: Chipping the Audi B7

I chipped my car with 6000 miles on it. Just got it back in january. After the APR 93 Tune i got the dreaded Whistle which happens above 4000RPMS at full booost. Didnt really notice any loss in boost, at least not much. My CEL came on two days ago. They replaced my DV saying it was cracked. Most dealerships will know you are chipped when your DV fails because they feel that only excess boost can make those crappy parts fail. My sales rep and Tech know im chipped. I have to specifically ask for one rep who i know wont rat me out. I turn off the 93 tune as well when i take it in. But back to the point, i drove it home that night, ran it up to about 6000rpms and the whistle is back. Thankfully, I ordered a forged DV anyway. Now I just need to check my PCV and make sure that is working fine. If i can get these little issues worked out, then the A4 will finally be a car worth driving with the chip, otherwise, its a dog...
